It’s really annoying to encounter a website that would take a lot of time before it responds and loads. A lot of website owner tends to include unnecessary files on the website that causes this problem. But is this bad for your Google ranking?
According to Matt Cutts, one of Google’s software engineer in an interview, as of the moment site load does not have any effect on the ranking. If a site takes so long to load and Google bot can’t even fetch it then it will have an effect in your ranking because your site is essentially timing out. Let say if your site takes 20 – 30 seconds to respond then you have a problem but if your site takes 1 second versus 2 second that has no difference on Google’s ranking and doesn’t hurt the site at all.
Everybody would want to make the web really fast but at the moment site load have no effect on rankings but who knows in the future. Google Like the web to be faster and would consider the things that can be done to encourage people to make their site faster and make them realize that end user who visits the site would be happy and would continue to visit the site because the site loads faster. Google experiences this with their own website and would like to share it to other webmasters and website owner.
You can start checking your files and see what actually holds up your site to load faster. It can be large images that you don’t really need or bundles of java scripts. Don’t worry about search engines for the meantime and think of ways that you could do for user experience that could probably make a big difference with your site visitors and for search engines for the coming years.
