Google has offered a tool that gives you new keyword ideas to help improve your campaign performance. Below are the steps in using the said tool:
1. Go to https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal to access the keyword tool.
2. There are two ways in generating keyword ideas: descriptive words and phrase and website content. Google recommends to use the latter because it lets you enter the website URL and the adword system will then examine your site and suggest for keywords that will suit your website.
3. Select a language and locations. If you happen to be targeting Chinese speakers living in United States, make sure to set the language and location on the keyword tool. This is located in the upper left hand side just above “How would you like to generate keyword ideas”. Just click on Edit to see these options.
4. Decide whether you want to use synonyms or not. Just uncheck the box below “Enter one keyword or phrase per line” if you don’t want to use any synonyms.
5. Determine whether you want to filter the result or not. Google keyword tool gives you option not to display ideas for new keywords and to include adult content in the keyword results.
6. Specify the match type: broad, phrase, exact and negative. Google recommends to start generating new keyword ideas by choosing broad like searching for “shoes”. Then try specific terms like “rubber shoes” or “leather shoes”.
